Soil is spectacular.
Even more spectacular is healthy, nourished soil and biochar’s role in feeding into this soil food web.

To Feed Your Soil...

Biochar is a superstar soil supplement, attracting and holding onto difficult-to-retain soil nutrients before releasing them for plant use.

For this reason, it’s best to mix biochar into moist soil.

This ensures biochar doesn’t take moisture from the surrounding soil and gives your mixture a little kickstart to begin cycling important nutrients.

Soil/Biochar Ratio

85% Soil. 15% Biochar.

To Feed Your
Compost...

Large compost bin filled with compost.

Mix with compost that is roughly 60%- 70% moist.

Why? Adding pure biochar, unmixed or dry, to compost can divert important nutrients from your pile, as biochar attracts and holds onto nutrients. This could delay the ability of organic materials to degrade. We suggest giving biochar a little boost with moistened compost to prevent this.

Pro compost tip: Because biochar absorbs nitrogen, we recommend inoculating biochar with a high-nitrogen source for a few days before introducing it to your compost mix.

Compost/Biochar Ratio:
90% Compost Mix. 10% Biochar
